The Front (1976) stars Woody Allen as Howard Prince, a cashier/bookie who becomes a "front" for a blacklisted TV writer (Michael Murphy) during the McCarthy era, enjoying success until his friendship with another blacklisted individual (Zero Mostel) forces a confrontation with HUAC.
