Loosely adapted from Inferno, the first canticle of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, L’Inferno took over three years to make and was the first full-length Italian feature film. Virgil (Arturo Pirovano) leads Dante (Salvatore Papa) to Hell, there follows a series of dark encounters. The fantastic set designs depicting the horrors of Hell with excessive violence and gore were designed to frighten the audience into becoming God-fearing. L’Inferno remains today one of the most fascinating silent films ever made. 1080p presentation on Blu-ray from a 4K restoration conducted by Redwood Creek Films in 2023.
